Stephen Hawking was born 8th
January 1942 to Frank and Isobel hawking who had moved to
Oxford from London. During his childhood, Hawking attended
various schools including St Albans High School for Girls,
Hertfordshire. Like Einstein he had hard time learning at
school and blamed its “progressive methods” for him failing to
learn to read while at school. Hawking developed an aptitude
towards scientific subjects, having been inspired by Dikran
Tahta, he decided to study mathematics however since
University College, Oxford did not offer mathematics, Hawking
decided to study chemistry and physics and joined Oxford
university in October 1959 as an Undergraduate student when he
was 17 years old.
