When pass blocking, the main objective for any offensive lineman is to resist any external force with as little disturbance to his initial position as he can possibly manage. He has two physical principals with which to help him accomplish this goal.  An offensive lineman understands even without physics that the more mass he has, the harder he is to move. The concepts of momentum and inertia prove this to be true.

Inertia is simply a term describing the property of Newton's First Law, that an object in motion has a tendency to stay in motion unless an outside force acts upon it.

An offensive lineman also looks to counteract external forces by lowering his center of gravity as close as he can to the ground so as to reduce the amount of torque a defender can place upon him. By squatting, a lineman effectively shortens the length of  his moment arm from his pivot point ( in this case, his feet ).  It is often touted about the NFL that the low man wins, a little rudimentary physics helps us understand why that is.
