Figure 2.             "Bending a Ball" is soccer jargon for the curved path that a ball takes in the air when

struck off-center.   The Physical forces acting on a ball in the air  can be seen in Figure 2. Since the ball is in motion in the air (either rising or falling), the normal force, N, is not equal to the Force of gravity, Fg. There is no frictional force because the ball is in the air, but there is a drag attributed to the ball FD.

If a player were to strike the ball, we would still need the equation: pf=pi (pi=miviand pf=mfvf), but the drag would be figured into the equation, rather than the friction.
