Like most women, I consider myself a conversationist. Or in Layman's Terms, I like to talk... alot. Of coarse, when ever I'm chatting it up, I wonder what the physics behind our conversation is!

When a person speaks sound waves come from their vibrating vocal cords. All sound waves come from some sort of vibration. Each sound has a a frequency. One gift we have is human's can only hear a specific range of frequencies. If something is to high pitched or to low pitched, we cannot hear it. So, if there is something squeeking with an extremely high pitch, we may not be able to hear it at all!
I like to talk so every day I converse with lots of people.

Important Definitions:

Frequency- how often the particles of the medium vibrate when a wave passes through the medium. This is measure in Hertz which equals 1 vibration per second.

Pitch- refers to high or low frequencies.

Infrasound- Any sound with a frequency below the audible range of hearing (i.e., less than 20 Hz)

Ultrasound- any sound with a frequency above the audible range of hearing (i.e., more than 20 000 Hz)
