Michael Faraday was born on September 22nd, 1791 to a blacksmith
and his wife. After serving his teenage years in an
apprenticeship as a bookbinder,
he realized that was not what he wanted to do with his
life. He wanted to be a scientist, particularly a
chemist. In 1813, he became an apprentice at the
Royal Institution (pictured below). He was able to study the
chemical make up of objects including water and gun powder.
Faraday didn't enjoy this work
however, he was just paying his dues. His major
contributions to science would come from his work in
electromagnetism.
