Tesla with backing from J.P. Morgan began to
create what he thought would be his greatest invention, a world wide radio transmitter.
He also believed, though he did not tell Morgan, because he thought he would
lose his backing, that with this tower one day he would be able to transmit
power without wires.
His dream of a wireless power and radio plant
would fail as Morgan's funding ran out and further funding did not arrive. Worst
of all Tesla recieved news during this time that Marconi was sending wireless
signals with ease, and even worse than that, recieving nearly all the credit
for radio.
This failure would would hang over Tesla for the rest of his life. The ideas
continued to flow and Tesla continued to apply for patents, but very few would
see use. In his old age he wrote poetry, as it was always one of his favorite
pastimes. He would see others grow rich from his ideas, while he remained penniless.
