The twin "paradox" focuses on time and seems
to occur in the thought experiment where
there are 2 twins who we'll call Jack and
Jill and Jack is traveling to somewhere else
in space at a speed near the speed of light.
As you know by now since Jack is traveling
at near the speed of light he will appear to
age slower; however from Jack's point of
view it appears that his sister Jill is
traveling away at that speed so she would be
the one aging slower. So the apparent
problem stands, who will really be younger
when Jack returns from his trip and they
meet again? The answer lies in the fact that
the laws of special relativity only occur
when the objects in question are moving at a
constant velocity relative to each other and
since jack must accelerate to turn around
and return home he will have changed his
reference frame. Because of this, when the
twins meet again it will be Jack who
is younger.
