Skiing Starts

http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/outdoor-activities/water-sports/water-skiing2.htmSkiing starts are difficult and require good communication from the skier and the driver of the boat. You also need to understand the physics behind the start and what is happening. At the start you want your body and ski at about a 45 degree or more with respect to the water. As the boat begins to tow the skier the skier must counter the tension force in the ski rope. Being in the start position will allow you to do this. As you counter the force caused by the boat the angle of the ski will help pull your body out of the water and you are up ready to ski.

The whole technique is in relation with Newton's Third Law. With every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So as you counter the pull force of the boat you supply a much smaller force than the force of the boat is on you causing you to accelerate in the direction of the boat.
