Applications: Safety

One of the most important applications of mirrors is in traffic. While less common in the United States, many older cities employ convex mirrors to provide a wider field of vision on very tight corners. They enable a greater field of vision by reducing the size of the image being reflected, allowing a small mirror to project the image of a wide area. There is heavy distortion at the edges of the mirrors, however.

These mirrors are also employed for safety purposes in as diverse applications as widening the vision of a security camera to dentistry.
