How it works

There are two main points on how this gun works: the magnetic potential energy and Newton’s Cradle. As the ball moves toward the magnets in the Gaussian gun, the magnetic force acting on the ball becomes stronger and pulls the ball toward the rest of the system. Then when the ball hits the magnets, it transfers its kinetic energy to the rest of the system. In Newton’s Cradle, shown in Figure 5, one ball is separated from the others and nudged toward them, transferring kinetic energy through the whole system.  After the energy has transferred through the last ball, it releases from the system, moving away from the others.  That’s how the Gaussian Gun works.
