ABSTRACT

Diversity in Physics is not just a social issue but a crucial issue for the progress of science.  By having a narrow relatively homogeneous population base we miss the diversity of approaches, ideas and interactions that diversity of all forms brings. This inhibits progress and limits excellence.  This lack of diversity in many physics disciplines is a problem that has been recognized for some time but has been difficult to address.  This journal club is meant to foster discussion about approaches to the issue.  Some information about the problem (ie it’s not a leakey pipeline so much as the entrance to the pipe, unconscious bias etc) will be discussed, as will some ideas, but my hope is that discussion will allow good new ideas to be aired.
