Really Cool Facts

-When starburst get really intense it creates a superbubble that is so hot and has such a great amount of energy that it has to expand out of that galaxy thus creating a superwind.

-Scientists that are using NASA’s Hubble telescope are perfecting a technique tha may one day tell the history of starburst just by observing the color of clusters. It has already been accepted that blue means young stars while red means older stars. An example of this is galaxy NGC 3310, scientists believe that when Chandra makes an observation it gives people new insight into what happens when two galaxies have an encounter that are the size of the Milky Way.

-The different star clusters formation has about a million stars. Scientists think it took less then 1,000 yrs for these formations to occur. As the stars become older they lose the blue shade and turn red, it has been deduced that the stars fuel is burning out once this occurs.

-Young stars are hypothesized to be a blue color while the older are thought to be red, scientists have come to this conclusion by measuring the clusters colors which gives clues on the stellar temperature.

-Did you know that there are several hundred star clusters in NGC 3310 that can be seem by the Heritage image. Each star formation represents close to a million stars, this process takes less then 100,000 yrs.

- Once the star clusters are formed they become redder with age as the most massive whic are the bluest stars burn out.

this is a superwind, scientist believe that this superwind is due to the formation of a 100 million new stars. This pic shows that a bright central region located in the middle of the hour glass shaped cloud.
