Types of GPS Units:
     

Trimble's Pathfinder Pro XRS real-time submeter accuracy GPS unit (far left) is a backpack model composed of an antenna, data logger, and receiver & batteries (inside the backpack). The unit is generally accurate to less than 3 feet.

  Standard handheld GPS units from Garmin. Most of these are equipped with WAAS which greatly improves their accuracy. The one on the right has 12 parallel channels which allows it to receive signals from 12 satellites simultaneously.
