Discovering Wind Power

By Annalisa Stephens

This website has been prepared for Dr. Newman's Physics 102x class, Spring 2002

Within the following pages we will explore some of the nature, history, and current uses of wind as a source of power.  We will look at the potential for using wind to meet our electricity needs within the United States, and explore the steps taken by California to develop this potential within the Tehachapi-Mojave Wind Resource Area and Altamont Pass.  We will also examine both the benefits and drawbacks of wind power so that you, as an energy consumer, may make more informed decisions regarding your own personal use of energy and emerging public energy policy.

First, you may wonder, what is wind?
What causes the wind to blow?
