Type Ia Supernova

The Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 2011 was awarded to Saul Perlmutter, Brian P. Schmidt, and Adam G. Riess for their discovery of the accelerating expansion of the universe. They measured the light coming from supernova specifically type 1a supernova which produces a lot of light, however, the light coming being detected was smaller than anticipated. After collaboration with other teams they confirmed that the universe was experience and accelerated expansion.

NASA's COsmic Background Explorer (COBE)

Created by Nasa with the purpose of measuring the CMB from the early universe. For about four years COBE collected data and released the data in January 1996.
