This PAge Will Briefly go over three Unique bugs and the physics of how they do what they do
The three bugs that we will be going over are:
Water spiderThe water spider is also known as the diving bell spider and is called such because it utilizes a bubble of air to live most of its life underwater. |
velvet worm This is an interesting little critter that has a unique twist to how it captures prey. |
water skimmerThese insects utilize surface tension to move along the surface of the water. |
QUICK RUNDOWN OF PHYSICS THAT COULD COME INTO PLAY
Surface Tension
Surface tension of water is especially important for the diving bell spider and the water skipper. It is how the first is able to construct its air bubbles and the main source of movement for the second.
|
Hydraulics
Hydraulics play a large role in how most bugs move. It is also very important for the velvet worms cool hunting strategy.
