Conclusion

Taking all the parts and putting them back together we have a complex heating system with a strangely simple name that is mentioned nowhere throughout the breakdown. This is simply because the system itself doesn’t heat directly. The floor does! Using the transferred heat energy from the water heater to the mixer, through the tubing into the floor created the warm object we talked about in the very beginning.

To transfer that heat to the room it uses the principle of radiation. Like the sun warms on a hot day, the floor heats your house. This can be expressed through the equation (last one I promise);

(Q/Δ t) = e * σ * A * T4

Where e is the emissivity of the surface, and σ is the Stefan-Boltzmann constant.

Alright, you have seen most of these things before but lets go over the new additions.

·         Emissivity is a measure of how well the surface radiates with a range of 0 to 1.

·         Stefan-Boltzmann constant has a value of 5.67 X 10-8 W/m2 K4

That is all there is to it. This equation explains how Radiant Floor Heating heats your house!!!

*NOTE* This is a drastically over simplified claim to the physics involved in the heating of your home *NOTE*
But still pretty freaking cool!
