Newton's Three Laws

  • 1st Law states that "An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force."
  • 2nd Law: F=ma
  • 3rd Law states that "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."
  •     Newtons first law explains how a ball will come to rest or accelerated. For example, a ball will continue rising if there was no gravity and continue falling without normal force from the ground. Volleyball players use this law to block the ball from coming over their side of the net.

The second law shows that acceleration and force is directly proportional. The mass of the ball will however be constant because the ball will always have the same mass.

The third law can be used as an advantage, but can also put a lot of stress on your body. The third law comes in handy when you want to jump high. The more force you put on the ground, the more amount of force will be pushed against you, which helps you levitate over other players. However, the third law is also the reason why players get injured. Due to this volleyball players wear knee pads to prevent bruises and other injuries.
