- Born in Newigton, Surry a part
of South London. Faraday roamed the Earth from
1791 to 1867. Born to a lower middle class
family, his father a blacksmith and his mother a
country wife. Faraday's father frequently ill
struggled to provide for the family, Faraday was
known to recall that he was once in his
childhood given a loaf of bread to eat that was
to last him a week.
- Faraday received little formal
education, earliest education was in Sunday
school where he was taught to read and write.
later Faraday began an apprenticeship as a book
binder where he was exposed to a variety
literature. Two titles were destined to grab his
attention and enthusiasm, the first The
Encyclopedia Britannica particularly concerning
electricity and magnetism, and Conversations on
Chemistry. These books sparked enough interest
in young Faraday for him to begin his own
experiments and then to attend scientific
lectures. Where he met Sir Humphry Davy a
renowned chemist at the time who later employed
Faraday as a lab technician and took Faraday as
under his wing. it is sometimes remarked that
Davy's greatest scientific discovery was
Faraday.
- Faraday went on to make
many contributions to the world of science, from
Faraday's Law to the invention of benzene he was
an incredible experimenter and a great logical
thinker.
