Static Electricity:
Have you ever wondered why you get shocked when you first begin to
give your kitten a simple loving rub? Or maybe afterwards when you
go to wash your hands and you touch a metal faucet handle?(Always do
this because outside cats especially, can carry diseases) The simple
answer to this is static electricity. As we have learned in this
physics class static electricity can occur when two objects with a
charge are rubbed together. The definition of static electricity is
the "Imbalance of electrical charges within or inside the surface of
a material. The charge remains until it is able to move away by
means of an electrical current or an electrical discharge."- ask.com
Grounding yourself and/or your cat is one way of lowering the
chances of a painful static discharge. One technique that has been
constantly tested over the past couple years is know as cat
breading. Due to the breads low density but relatively high surface
area it can sometimes help lower the static per given area and also
can provide a barrier between you and the cat.
Here is a visual on cat breading, please give it a try and relay
your findings onto me for my ongoing research-

Here, my two dogs are plotting against the cat and creating real
negative energy by the static electricity between the touching fur.
