This
is probably a bad idea (no really, it is) |
So, it should not come as a
complete surprise that much of the ideas presented here, as
in, the use of explosions as an energy source, is perhaps a
very very bad idea. Most of this comes from the fact that
explosions, and explosive devices release their energy in a
comparatively short period of time, which typically shunts a
large portion of the energy, either as a shock-wave or some
other form into the environment around it, causing large
amounts of destruction (the supernova can vaporize an entire
solar system with no problems at all in fact). However, the underlying physics that are controlling the explosions are also useful in non-destructive applications such as the power industry. The chemical combustion in TNT is also used in coal and fossil fuels, which is a much slower reaction, and can be safely harnessed. The fission reaction in nuclear bombs can be harnessed in a much slower for with different elements, and can be used to reign in the superior power. most of our power can be derived from our sun, which is really just a massive explosions that happens to be exploding at the same rate that it's being pulled into itself. So much can be learned from energetic and exciting explosions (from a safe distance of course) but, it's a good idea to reiterate that you probably should not spend a lot of time trying to harness an explosion for energy, and you should spend more time trying to understand how that explosions uses it's energy, and apply those concepts in a tad more controllable environment. Though, a coffee maker powered by a nuclear bomb would certainly warm if up quickly in the morning. As well as warm up most of the city in a surrounding radius. Perhaps it's still not a fantastic idea. |
