Arctic Sea Ice Volume
While sea ice extent is an important metric for measuring Arctic ice coverage, volume is a more significant measure of the amount of sea ice left in the Arctic Ocean, and will be our metric for determining the heat flux of Arctic sea ice.

Arctic sea ice volume has similar trends to those of Arctic sea ice extent, although with different timing:

September volume is represented by the thick black line and thin black regression line.
April volume is represented by the thick blue line and thin blue regression line.

September had a mean and standard deviation of 12.3 and 3.4 103 km3. 2007 through 2013 were all at least one standard deviation below the mean. 2012 was over two standard deviations below the mean.
