Pickups

  • Pickups are made up of 6 electromagnets (one to go under each string). These electromagnets are tightly wrapped wires called inductors that create a magnetic field. When one of the conducting strings vibrates it causes the magnetic field to change its state of flux which then creates an electromagnetic field given by Faradays Law.

(Electromagnetic field= number of turns in coil X ( change in magnetic flux / change in time)

  • This electromagnetic field travels travels in the form of a sine wave from the pickups into a cord that leads to an amplifier.
