Blimps and Hot Air Balloons
- Both hot air
balloons and blimps use the same method for
rising into the air. Hot air balloons float
by heating the air they contain. The hot air
inside the balloon becomes lighter than the
cold air surrounding it because hot air
expands. Blimps carry large amounts of gas
(helium) that is lighter than air. The
blimps' buoyancy is then positive in
relation to the air, so it floats.
