  • Chien-Shiung Wu's contributions lie heavily in the realm of nuclear physics--specifically her research concerning beta decay.
  • Chien-Shiung Wu was one of the first to confirm Enrico Fermi's Theory of Beta Decay
  • In 1957, she successfully implemented an experiment confirming Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen Ning Yang's theory that the Law of Parity did not hold true during beta decay.
    • The Law of Parity stated that nature possesses fundamental symmetry and essentially 'cannot discern left from right.'
    • Chien-Shiung Wu disproved this law using the beta decay of radioactive cobalt at temperatures near absolute zero.
    • This is often considered her most significant contribution to modern physics.
