The Obsolete Caloric Theory The Caloric Theory was created by Antoine Lavoisier in the 1770's. The theory stated that heat consisted of a fluid called caloric.  This fluid could be transferred between two bodies.  However, like energy and mass, it could neither be destroyed nor created.
