The Space Launch
System is a side step
for NASA, in that it is a return to the
expendable launch vehicle,
much like the famed Saturn V. The SLS is an
expendable vehicle that
is currently being developed by NASA as the
replacement for the Space
Shuttle. It is going to be very close in
size to the Saturn V and
NASA plans on having the first launch of the
new rocket in late 2018. NASA plans on
using the SLS as the new space
workhorse. They plan on using the SLS
to return to the Moon, launch new
satellites, go to Mars, study Titan, Venus,
and Uranus, and go to nearby asteroids.
