The Fire Plough
utilizes a harder drill to "sand" off particles of the
hearth board. These particles ignite as the temperature is
increased through friction.
Step 1: Prep
Create a groove in your hearth board with a rock or knife.
Place ember pan at the end of the hearth board and groove.
Step 2: Rub-A-Dub
Place the tip of the drill into the groove. Keeping
downward pressure, plough or push the drill back and forth
along the groove.
Step 3: Coax the Flame
Particles of the hearth board will "sand" off as the drill
is moved back and forth within the groove. These particles
will ignite as the temperature rises.
