The Hadron Epoch lasted from
10^-6 seconds until one second (finally there!). The
universe was now around 1 trillion degrees which
allowed quarks to combine and form hadrons. Hadrons
are subatomic particles made up of quarks,
anti-quarks, and gluons. There are two categories of
known hadrons: baryons and mesons. Baryons are made up
of three quarks and mesons are made up of one quark
and one anti-quark. The most well known and important
baryon is the proton. The protons began to collide
with electrons at extremely high speeds which formed
neutrons and neutrinos. Neutrinos are massless
particles given off from the collision of protons and
electrons that are travel near the speed of light.
Baryogenesis is still taking place between all the
particles being formed, and massive sub atomic
particles begin to form in the young universe. |
