History Cont:

In 1836 Samuel Colt invented what was
to become known as the Colt Paterson Revolver.
This revolving chamber, percussion cap
pistol was simply the next step for firearm
design.

The first commercially produced semi-automatic
handgun in the world: The Borchardt C93 was
developed in 1893 and was a revolutionary
step in the design of modern firearms. With an
unparallelled rate of fire it truly ushered in the more
modern era of firearm design.

Jump ahead a mere 100+ years and we find
modern handguns and rifles have come a long way
but still retain the basic design of the Borchardt C93.

The assault rifle; first created by the Germans in WWII
with the Sturmgewehr 44 has become the staple of armies
and law enforcement around the globe and constitute
some of the most recognizable shapes in the world.
Modern assault rifles and machine guns bring massive
firepower to the battlefield, hostage situation, or civilian
application. Such firepower was unthought of just a few short
year ago.

Weapon of the future? The railgun has long been in stories of galactic adventure and other science fiction novels. Today the US Navy is preparing to field the world's first practical application of the railgun technology. This system provides a means of propelling projectiles in excess of 6 times the speed of sound! And allows them to be fired at targets up to 100 miles away to impact with incredible kinetic energy.
