Gravity, Leverage, and Torque

Wrestling is a sport in which you need a strong offense and a stable defense to be successful at.

  • For wrestling you need a low center of gravity.
  • Having a low center of gravity ensures stability and makes it harder for opponents to take you down.

  • Torque is the tendency of a force to rotate an object about an axis.
  • Torque is needed in order for a wrestler to take down an opponent because they must attack at an angle to get them off balance.
  • Leverage ties into both, the lower you are in wrestling the better position you are in and the higher you lift one of your opponents legs the greater torque you create.
