Over the course of his career, Nikola Tesla obtained about 300 patents for his inventions. This is a list of his more notable ones:
  • Alternating current (AC) - an electric current which alternates the direction of the flow of electricity; Tesla incorporated this alternative to DC (direct current) in many of his other inventions.
  • AC motor - an electric motor which uses alternating currents; though Tesla had invented the AC motor, it was also independently invented by Galileo Ferraris.
  • Remote control - this was first demonstrated with a small toy boat which was wirelessly controlled by radio waves.
  • Tesla coil - a transformer which was designed using alternating currents; this device is able to produce plasma at high voltages.
  • Tesla turbine - a bladeless turbine used for the transference of fluids; this is essentially a pump, similar to a centrifugal pump.
