FALL RECYCLE SALE NOW SET FOR OCTOBER 6 Due to duplicate scheduling of the Wood Center Ballroom, the UWA Fall Recycle Sale has been rescheduledÊfor Saturday, October 6th, with set-up being done Friday evening, October 5th in the Wood Center.
As in the past, any one in the community is encouraged to move gently used items off their garage shelves and out of the backs of their closets and get them back into use by bringing them to the UWA Recycle Sale. UWA provides a place where sellers can drop off their items in the morning, we sell them beginning at noon, and the sellers return in the late afternoon to collect their money (and any of their items that did not sell).
Lizz Focella, who works at the WomenÕs Center (474- 6360) on campus, is chairing the event. Please contact her if you are interested in working on the Sale and pre-shopping. HelpersÊareÊneeded for a variety of shifts to cover from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. the day of the Sale.
Soon we will put up posters directing interested sellers to locations where tags and itemized Recycle Sale sheets can be picked up. If this one goes well, we hope the Sales will continue twice yearly, in both spring and fall.
CONTRA DANCE Come and dance the night away on September 15th, from 8 to 11pm at the Wood Center Ballroom at a FREE contra dance for the fun, amusement and co-mingling of all who attend. The dance will feature the live music of Ice Jam and each dance will be taught by the caller, Lynn Basham. No experience or special attire is necessary - just a pair of clean, comfortable shoes. If you can walk, you can contra dance! BOOK GROUP This in from Laura Lynn Walsh: ÒSummer is evidently difficult for most people to work meetings in, so we are still discussing some books that people are interested in, but haven't had a chance to talk about. Several people missed the meeting about Eat, Pray, Love and would like to talk about that and others missed Ender's Game and want to discuss it.ÊÊIf you are interested in either of these books, or are interested in the Book Group in general, please let me know how your fall schedule is shaping up. I would like to set up a fairly regular meeting schedule for the book group, so if you have day-of-the-week preferences, please let me know.Ó Laura Walsh, <mailto:lwalsh@acsalaska.net>lwalsh@acsalaska.net or 374-8084.
GAMES NIGHT Laura Walsh writes, I am willing to host/sponsor more Games Nights. I would like to set up a more regular schedule for these if possible. So, if you want to participate, please let me know. Contact Laura at lwalsh@acsalaska.net or 374-8084.

2007 HOLIDAY BAZAAR The 39th annual UWA Holiday Bazaar is Saturday and Sunday, November 3rd and 4th at the Wood Center. We expect to have over 100 vendors each day. We need the help and talents of all UWA members to make this Bazaar a success. The Bazaar is the main source of funding for the scholarships UWA awards twice yearly.
Rita and I want to thank Helen Howard, Laura Lynn Walsh and Ginny Kawasaki for their work on the initial mailing to our Bazaar vendors August 27th at Vonna HusbyÕs offices at Raymond James Financial Services. Our heartfelt thanks go to Vonna for providing her handsome conference room as workspace.
Our UWA Holiday Bazaar message telephone, 456-4009, is receiving vendor inquiries. Please refer friends who are crafters to that number or to our email fbuwa@uaf.edu.
The lottery for assignment of vendor tables is tentatively set for 11AM to 3 PM on Thursday, September 27th and several of participants are needed. On Saturday, September 29th from 10AM to 1PM there will be a work party to mail out of the results. So, let us know if you can help out with either task by calling Georgene Nielsen (479-0988) or email <mailto:nielsen@mosquitonet.com>nielsen@mosquitonet.com or by calling Rita Osborne (479-4535) or email <mailto:osborne@gvea.net>osborne@gvea.net.
If you canÕt make it to a work party or to committee meetings, but would be willing to take on a Bazaar task, (like newspaper publicity, coordinating UWA volunteers, or putting up posters around town) call either of us. We are eager to hear from you. - Georgene

GOING TO ENGLAND SOMETIME SOON? One of our UWA members, Helen Howard, is renting her late parents' house in Cornwall, England by the week. The bungalow was built in 1933 and is comfortable but not fancy. It sleeps up to six in two large bedrooms and a loggia.
Helen would like to provide details to anyone who is interested. It is in a very desirable location, near Rock, which has become the Mecca for the upper crust, sailing, golfing and surfing crowd. The house is about half way between the surfing beach at Polzeath and the sailing club at Rock, with a view across the mouth of the estuary of the River Camel to Stepper Point and the Atlantic Ocean. There are three golf courses almost within view.
You may contact Helen by calling 488-2314 or e-mailing her at <mailto:hmh@acsalaska.net>hmh@acsalaska.net.
