CABIN FEVER DAZE
Come to the UWA Cabin Fever event to shake off the blues of long, cold, dark days and nights! It's set for Sunday, February 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the home of Floss Caskey at 705 Cranberry Ridge Drive. Our members have many interest and talents and this is a time to learn about some of them. Eva Rothman will share her Ukrainian eggs, a folk art predating Christianity. Jane Reilly will take a break from her master's study and tell us about Northern stressors with emphasis on geophysical stress, including light variation and barometric pressure. Ruth Levey will intrigue us with her adventures in Turkey. Come socialize and bring a friend. Call Floss to RSVP and for driving directions (457- 4424).

SALAD LUNCHEON
Last month's salad luncheon was hosted by Cynthia Dorman on Friday, January 20th. Yes, the weather was very cold, but the camaraderie and conversation made up for that. Some of us would have braved even colder weather for Cynthia's trifle with Devon cream.

This month, Helen Howard will host the salad luncheon on Friday, February 17th at 12.00 noon. Please RSVP to 488-2314 or hmh@acsalaska.net.
Directions:
On Chena Hot Springs Road, drive just short of 7 miles. You will have passed Nordale Road on your right. Take Smallwood Trail, which is the 3rd road on the left after Nordale, just before a large row of mail boxes. To proceed up Smallwood you will probably need good tires or a 4-wheel drive vehicle(or ask for a ride).
Drive up Smallwood Trail till you get to where Kalinas Road branches left and there is a house right in front of you. KEEP RIGHT.
At that point Helen's house, 1000 Smallwood Trail, is the 3rd driveway on the right. Look for a small sign saying '1000'. Helen's driveway is directly in front of you as the Smallwood Trail bears off on a curve at that point, (roughly 0.8 mile from CHS Road.)
The house is below a fairly wide parking area. Wear good boots as the path to from the parking area is sloped and uneven. This is one of Fairbanks's original homesteads and not one of the modern homes.

The Salad Lunch group meets once a month at a member's home. The hostess chooses the date. We each bring a salad and the hostess usually provides beverages, bread and dessert. If you would like to introduce a friend to UWA, please invite them to attend as your guest. It's a fun way to meet with friends and relax. If you would like to have the luncheon at your home, please call Floss Caskey at 457-4424.

INTERNATIONAL DINERS
For those who have not participated in International Diners before: A host chooses a month and decides upon a cuisine theme. The host contacts all International Diners who have indicated that they plan to attend. Based on the response, the host plans a meal, and all participants will get a recipe to prepare. Participants are asked to keep a monetary total of what they spend to prepare their dish. During the dinner, all totals are added together, and an average sum is assigned to each person. Thus, a person who prepared an inexpensive dish will likely end up paying some money, and those who prepared an expensive dish will likely get some money back. It is a fun way to collect some great recipes and the dinners are a feast

Eva Rothman will host this month's dinner at her home at 1949 Kittiwake Drive, Fairbanks on Saturday, February 18th, 6 pm appetizers, 7 pm dinner.
THEME: Israeli Foods (sort of Middle-Eastern/North African with a Jewish twist)
RSVP: Eva at either 374-3394 or evarothman@acsalaska.net

SPECIAL NOTES:
1) When RSVP-ing, please let Eva know if you would prefer to prepare one dish or another and she will try to accommodate your wishes. Obviously, the earlier you contact Eva, the more choice you will have.
2) If anyone has one of those folding 5 ft or 6 ft tables Eva can borrow, she would appreciate it.
3) Eva can accommodate 10 (maybe 12 people if the loaner table is 6 ft) for a sit-down meal.
4) If you want to participate but are loathe to or unable to cook, Eva can still assign you something like wine or pita bread, so don't be shy, give her a call.
