There is a lot coming up this month and next for UWA.

RECYCLE SALE will be held at the Wood Center on Sat. October 23 from noon to
2 p.m. The building will be available for us from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. with
check in starting at 7:30 a.m. for recycle items. It sounds like Wood
Center will set up the evening before so we'll not have to do that. We'll
have use of the coatroom for coats and backpacks (to prevent missing items).
Rita has some volunteers and can use more help. Please call Ginny Kawaski
to sign up. 456-5192 Thanks for your help! Rita Osborne

THE HOLIDAY BAZAAR will be held November 6 and 7. (The newsletter had the
wrong dates last month). Volunteers for that important event can also call
Ginny Kawasaki 456-5192. Everyone’s help will be needed.

INTERNATIONAL DINERS: The Octoberfest at Barbara and Alan Braley’s will be
held on the 23rd of October. That will be a busy day. Call Barbara if you

room at 5:30 on the second Monday of each month. The books coming up for
discussion are: October 11 – Night in the Lonesome October by Roger
Zelazny, November 8 – Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to
Punctuation by Lynne Truss, December 13 – Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

CALLING ALL WALKERS AND SKIERS! Can you join us at least one day a week?
Our group is very informal and lowkey--no pressure to be a world
champion skier or pace-setting walker, and this year we hope to get
participation from beginning skiers so don't be shy. Equipment can be
rented in town if you want to give skiing a try, or check out the sports
section at UWA's upcoming Recycle Sale. No need to call ahead: just show up
at any of these times and join the group:
MONDAYS at 1:30 at the parking lot by Ballaine Lake on Farmer's Loop just
north of campus.
THURSDAYS at 10:45 at the back entrance of Pioneer Park (intersection of
Wilbur and 2nd Ave.), unless it is very wet or snowy, in which case we will
meet at the same time upstairs at the Big Dipper (on Cowles) where walking
costs $1.50 or less.
FRIDAYS at 10:45 at the parking lot by Ballaine Lake on Farmer's Loop just
north of campus.
CONSIDER ALL THESE TIMES AS WALKING GROUPS UNTIL THE SNOW ACCUMULATES!
After that, only Thursdays will be for walking. We usually walk for about
an hour and ski for about 1.25-1.5 hours. Any questions, call Elizabeth
Shapland at 474-4725.
.
Nancy Klammer asks: Could you please put a little blurb in asking folks to
save the lids from frozen juice cans for the Girl Scouts. We need them for
a project in January. They could be given to me or dropped off at the
GirlScout Office on the corner of College and Old Steese. Thanks!

REMINDER: Dues of $15 can be sent to Barbara Day at 3114 Chinook Drive,
Fbks., 99709. The application form can be downloaded from the UWA website.
