UWA MISSION
UWA is a social/service organization whose goal is to benefit the University
community. UWA shall provide a means of welcoming new members and of promoting
friendship and understanding among the various branches of the University.
UWA shall provide service to the University community through scholarships,
donations and work projects.
Who joins?
Active members consist of any individual or spouse of an individual employed
by the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Statewide Programs and Services of
the University of Alaska, or any state or federal agency on the Fairbanks
campus shall be eligible for membership in UWA. Also, any other individual
who cares to share in the UWA activities and who supports the purposes of
UWA shall be eligible for membership.
Money raised from various activities is dontated to member chosen activities in Fairbanks.

The Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School uses the annual donation from the University Women’s Association to enhance the program above and beyond what could be done using the
lab school budget. The donation several years ago was $250 annually, increasing to $300 in 2007 and to $1000 in 2008.
Specifically, over the years the UWA donation has been used to:

Purchase new classroom chairs

Purchase a camera in order to document the children’s activities and development

Purchase riding toys (tricycles and scooters)

Purchase the materials needed for volunteers to build a shelter over the sandbox

Purchase an outdoor storage building in order to free up inside space for a staff work and meeting area

Purchase raised garden beds to make the children’s garden easier from them to work a nd play in
