Nome for the Day

We decided to go to Nome for the day on Dec 23, 2004. We left Fairbanks in the morning, arriving in Nome at noon. We spent the day there and caught a flight back to Anchorage at 9:40 pm and were in Fairbanks by 1am. It was a long day but very relaxing. We walked along Front St. in Nome, hung out in a couple of restaurants writing our holiday cards, and had many nice conversations with people as everyone prepared for Christmas. It was snowing and the wind was blowing so it was nippy. Nonetheless, we had a wonderful day in a beautiful place and we highly recommend visits to Nome.

Denali's peaks stuck out above the haze and were light up by the rising sun.

Beautiful leads in the ice seen just before landing in Nome.

Snow covered tundra and hills from the air surrounding Nome.

View of frozen sea from Front St. People had dramatic stories of the damage from the high waves that stuck Front Street in October 2004. Read more about them, here, at the Anchorage Daily News.
