General Routing

While there are some direct flights into Fairbanks from Seattle (Alaska Airline), Chicago (Alaska Airline) and Minneapolis (Northwest Airline - seasonal) most of the flights come through Anchorage. Therefore one possible routing is to fly to Anchorage and then travel on to Fairbanks.

Airlines

Fairbanks is served by Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines and Northwest Airlines. Alaska Airlines has about 9 flights daily into Fairbanks (most through Anchorage).

Train

In the winter, there is weekly train service run by the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Fairbanks. The route cuts through the Alaska range. The Aurora Winter train travels north from Anchorage to Fairbanks each Saturday and south from Fairbanks to Anchorage each Sunday of the winter season. The total trip takes approximately 12 hours and is very scenic if the weather is good.

Bus

Alaska Direct Bus Lines runs between Anchorage and Fairbanks every Wednesday and Sundays through the Winter season of October 1 - May 15th. Total trip time is approximately 12 hours.

 

Car Rental

There are a number of car rental agencies available in Fairbanks. At the Fairbanks International Airport , Arctic Rent a Car, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz , and Payless are all available. In town, National and other rental agencies are available. A car might be convenient, particularly if shared.
