ATM 693 Special Topics in Polar Climatology

ATM 693 will be offered for 6-week periods in both Spring and Fall Semesters. For the February/March 2002 period we have been able to invite the six distinguished scientists listed below. All lectures will be held in the newly remodeled Elvey Auditorium (Geophysical Institute) on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 15:30.

21 February: Snowball Earth; Ice thickness on the tropical ocean

26 February: Holding Global Warming in Check? Progress in Direct Experiments on the Ocean Disposal of Fossil Fuel CO2.
28 February: Measuring the lifetime and transport processes of methane hydrates from the sea floor to the ocean surface.

7 March: The interaction between contaminant pathways and global change in the Arctic.

12 March: Bottom water formation and ocean climate: The interaction between the atmosphere, the ocean and the floating ice shelves in the Weddell Sea."
14 March: A climate perturbation scenario. An example of a possible coupling between regional wind climate in the Weddell Sea and the stability of the Ice Sheet. "
