Regimes of Earth's Global Pressure Regions
Pressure Variations over the last several decades highlight the four major regimes
The Siberian and North American High show a trend toward increasing pressure
The Aleutian and North Atlantic Lows show a strengthening as their trends are toward a lower pressure
The Temperature variations in this image show a long term trend toward a dominating Warm, Negative phase.
The North Atlantic Oscillation
NAO was the first to be shown to have large scale effects on weather throughout the Northern Hemisphere
The NAO brings warm and wet weather to the Eastern United States and Northern Europe, while bringing unusually dry area to Southern Europe and North Africa
NAO was subsequently shown to be only one part of the larger scale Arctic Oscillation which couples the North Atlantic low with the Aleutian low over the North Pacific
