Applications: Lenses A combination of mirrors and lenses can form distinct magnified images for use in a variety of sciences, from Astronomy to Microbiology. This combination can be referred to as catadioptric systems. They can also be used to focus light, for example in some powerful flashlights, and light houses. Lenses have a lot in common with a mirror. Like a mirror, they can form real and virtual images. The images can be reversed, inverted, and/or magnified.
