The Mozilla developer center helped a lot with javascript and css. I also borrowed their style because I am unoriginal and it looks clean and easy to read. here are a few useful pages:

Tools

An awesome text editor. syntax highlighting, code folding, spell checking (with plug in) and much more. it supports many languages besides HTML.
An excellent web browser. I also used the Console² extension to debug errors in javascript and css.
A good free image editing program I just used it to resize and touch up though.
Open Office a good office suit with a nice equation editor. I used the equation editor to make the equations for the theory page.
