Due to the shortcomings of
today's
technology , it seems that a lightsaber much as the ones seen in Star
Wars will remain a fantasy-a dream which cannot be attained. That is
not to say that lightsabers are completely improbable. The current
research involving plasma, plasma guns and their use in the development
of lightsabers shows that the possibility remains that we may see a
working handheld lightsaber in the near future if we can achieve the
following:
Stable,
positively charged
plasma (negatively charged plasma would work as well but plasma becomes
positively charged naturally.
Cool
plasma that will work
as well as extremely hot plasma and remain stable with no decay in
energy.
An emitter
of small size
with enough power to emit a full length blade.
