THE
MOST PROBABLE SOLUTION: PLASMA
Because the use of light or lasers in the
creation
of a lightsaber blade are so improbable and have so many shortcomings,
it seems safe to assume that light cannot and will not be used to
generate the blade. The Laws of Physics cannot be bent enough to
facilitate this. This leads us to believe that the most logical approch
to developing the lightsaber blade is the approach referred to by the Star Wars
Universe itself: PLASMA
Plasma is
the
4th state of matter which occurs if a gas is heated up to immensely
high temperatures. Extra energy blasts negative charged electrons off
of the individual atoms that form the gas and thus, the gas is divided
into positive ions and loose negative electrons. Plasma generates large
amounts of heat and visible light.
Plasma does occur commonly in our universe. The sun is a big ball of
plasma. Lightning is nothing more than a streak of plasma formed as a
result of gas being ignited in the atmosphere. Plasma is also used
fairly commonly on Earth. Most of our neon and flourescent bulbs
make use of plasma as does Nuclear Fusion. Other commercial uses of
plasma include construction of engines or applying coats of material to
other materials etc.
As a result of several of its properties, one could imagine that plasma
is the most ideal material for generating the blade on a lightsaber.
