Lord Kelvin was born William Thomas to James Thomas, a Professor of Mathamatics at the Royal Belfast Academical Institute, and Margaret Thomas in Belfast, Ireland.

Margaret Thomas died and James Thomas took over taking care of the six children.
1832...
James took his family and moved to Glasgow where he became the Professor of Mathmatics at the University of Glasgow.
After being homeschooled by his father, William Thomas began college -at the age of 10!
