Ionizing Radiation Interactions with Matter

Radiation is produced when an unstable radioactive nucleus spontaneously decomposes and releases energy.

There are two types of radiation:

ionizing radiation-

radiation particle is able to displace electrons of other particles.

non-ionizing radiation-

radiation particles are not strong enough to displace electrons, such as radio waves, ultra violet light, infrared light, visible light, and microwaves.

This site will focus more on the basic concepts of ionizing radiation interactions with matter.
