Marie Sklodowska was born on November 7, 1867, in Warsaw, Poland to Bronislawa and Vladislav Sklodowski

1883

Graduated high school and received the gold medal at graduation

1891

She went to Paris to continue her studies in science at the Sorbonne where she obtained Licenciateships in Physics and the Mathematical Sciences

1893

Finished first in her master’s degree physics course

1894

Finished second in her master’s degree math course

 

She met Pierre Curie, Professor in the School of Physics

1895

Married Pierre Curie

1897

In September their first child, Irène, was born

1898

Discovered Polonium and Radium

1900

She was appointed lecturer in physics at the École Normale Supérieure for girls in Sévres

1903

She succeeded her husband as Head of the Physics Laboratory at the Sorbonne and gained her Doctor of Science degree

 

Bequerel and both Curies were awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics.

 

She received, jointly with her husband, the Davy Medal of the Royal Society

In December, their second daughter, Eve, was born

1906

Death of her husband and became the first women to hold the position as Professor of General Physics in the Faculty of Sciences

She became titular professor

Her fundamental treatise on radioactivity was published

1911

Received a second Nobel Prize in chemistry for her earlier discovery of Polonium and Radium

She was appointed Director of the Curie Laboratory in the Radium Institute of the University of Paris

Received her Doctor of Science

Made a trip to the United States, where President Warren G. Harding presented her with a gram of radium bought as the result of a collection among American women.

1932

The Curie Foundation in Paris was developed and the inauguration of the Radium Institute was held in Warsaw
