"Abraham Maslow - ( Abraham Harold Maslow ), who is widely known of for developing a view that people are successively motivated by the claims of an hierarchy of need. This hierarchy is applied to human beings and is built upon the perception that some needs take precedence over others."

Maslow said human beings have needs relating to a linear fashion where certain needs are met first by humans such as food then safety then respect and so forth. On Maslow's hierarchy of needs transportation and lodging are considered more of safety and security. Shishmaref's ancestors considered transportation and lodging an integral part in their survival. The ancestors therefore took those aspects ponderously. In fact, the ancestors made igloos, kayaks, and dog mushing popular associations amidst Eskimos because the ancestors were brilliant with designs and the physics affiliated with igloos, kayaks, and dog mushing.
