Types of Microphones

There have been allusions to different types of microphones on the previous page. This page will talk about the 3 most common types.

Dynamic Microphone: The dynamic microphone is cone-shaped on the top that concentrates the sound waves because of its dome shape that serves as a  lens.   This serves to move the diaphragm which creates the electric current that runs through the wire that is coiled around the magnet. These types of microphones are unidirectional.

Dynamic Microphone

Condenser Microphone: The condenser microphone has no wire or coil, but rather just two parallel plates (poles) with a back plate that serves as a capaticor. This, instead, creates the electrical current from the sound waves.

Condenser Microphone

Ribbon Microphone: The ribbon microphone has a thin metal strip (ribbon) instead of a diaphragm between two plates (poles), which makes it similar to the condenser microphone.
