On a car, tires make all the difference. Especially when its the friction of the tire on the ground that delivers the power to the ground causing the car to accelerate.

A commonly seen thing in drag races is to “lite the tires” A method of burning them out to heat them out. The reason for doing this is a hot tire is sticky, giving it a higher coefficient of static friction

Remember the amount a friction is related to the amount of normal force on the tires. Basically the heavy the car is the more force the tires can apply before they slip.
